NEW YORK – HBO Archives, which launched in 2002, announces its new website, hboarchives.com, enhanced to enable users to conduct dual footage and text searches, as well as accessing showcase reels. “High-speed search, the ability to view and download, and access to tens of thousands of clips, this is a huge step forward for us,” said Rick Bernstein, senior vice president and executive producer, HBO Sports.

Digital initiatives translate into major changes for HBO’s emerging clip licensing division. HBO Archives offers an increased amount of footage originating on either High Definition video or 35mm film, and key digital developments have been made in conjunction with HBO’s online partner, Thought Equity Motion, to make the collection more readily available.

HBO Archives breaks down into four core collections: Sports, Contemporary, Archival and Wildlife. The Sports Collection is anchored by one of the world’s most significant boxing collections. In addition, one-of-a-kind feature b-roll and interviews – from virtually every sport, major or minor, shot in hundreds of locations worldwide – are available.

The Contemporary Collection includes thousands of hours of scenic establishing shots, landmarks, lifestyles and pop culture, and most recently added “Entertainment News” material, footage that includes red carpet events, celebrity appearances and behind-the-scenes exclusives.

The Archival Collection covers the turn of the 20th century through the late 1960’s, showcasing some of the biggest personalities and events of the day, in addition to the ephemeral, quirky stories of the times. The collection is comprised of a combination of historic newsreels, documentaries and vintage government films.

HBO Archives’ first-ever Royalty Free Collection offers clips from the acclaimed series “The Wild, Wild World of Animals” from the library of Time Life Films®. This series presents a panorama of animal life in a wide range of wilderness regions throughout the world. “Wildlife and exotic locations are a natural extension to our library, which currently contains more than 60,000 hours of programming. This exemplifies our goal to explore compelling imagery from other divisions of the network,” said Bernstein.

Honored with over 150 major awards, HBO has long been known for its uncompromising commitment to quality and innovation in live event programming, journalism and long-form storytelling. HBO Archives is a full-service specialized and stock footage library for commercial/professional use. The footage available is wide-ranging, culled from images shot around the globe by HBO's producers for more than three decades. This impressive collection, as well as its production outtakes, are available for licensing directly through HBO Archives.
