Winners Announced for 57th Annual Writers Guild Awards

LOS ANGELES and NEW YORK -- The Writers Guild of America, west and East announced the winners of the 57th Annual Writers Guild Awards for outstanding achievement in writing for the screen, television, and radio in gala ceremonies at The Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and the Pierre Hotel in New York on Saturday, February 19, 2005.

Seinfeld's John O'Hurley hosted the West Coast event. Presenters
scheduled to attend the event in Los Angeles included Alan Alda, Rachel Bilson,
Zach Braff, Julie Delpy, David Duchovny, Craig Ferguson, Dennis Haysbert, Anne
Heche, George Lopez,William H. Macy, Meg Ryan, Jeffrey Tambor, Kerry Washington,
Betty White, and BeBe Winans, among others.


Charles Grodin hosted the event in New York. Presenters scheduled to attend
in New York included Art Buchwald, Ritchie Coster, Alfonso Cuarón, Bob Edwards,
Terry George, Kate Mulgrew, Cynthia Nixon, Tom Pelphrey, Andy Rooney, Julie
Rottenberg, Ben Shenkman, Gina Tognoni, Ellen Violett, and Elisa Zuritsky.


Honorary awards were previously announced and presented to the recipients at
the Los Angeles ceremony. Special honors include: David Mamet - Screen Laurel
Award; Susan Harris - Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television; and Don
Payne- Paul Selvin Award.


The Writers Guild of America, East Special Awards were presented to John
Sayles (Ian McLellan Hunter Award for Lifetime Achievement), John Auerbach
(Richard B. Jablow Award for Distinguished Service to the WGAE), and Claire
Labine (Evelyn F. Burkey Award for "bringing honor and dignity to writers
everywhere").


The West Coast program was executive produced by Cort Casady and written by
Dave Boone, Beth Armogida, Dennis Blair, Cort Casady, and Roy Zimmerman; talent
executive was Carole Propp.


The East Coast program was produced by Sindy Gordon and written by David
Steven Cohen, Craig Shemin, and Michael Quinn.


The Writers Guild of America, East and west represent writers in the motion
picture, broadcast, cable, radio, and new media industries in both entertainment
and news. The unions conduct numerous programs, seminars, and events throughout
the world on issues of interest to, and on behalf of, writers.
