WAM! Teen Video Contest: Superheroes
A Call for Fresh, Creative Filmmakers to Create Their Own Superhero and Bring Their Talents to the Small Screen
Engelwood, CO -- Teen moviemakers get ready for action. The adventures of your incredible superhero can soar out of your imagination and onto the TV screen if you're selected as a winner of WAM!'s Teen Video Contest: Superheroes, which will begin Saturday, November 27, 2004.
The complete details of WAM!'s Teen Video Contest: Superheroes will be announced during WAM!'s "Comic Book Heroes" programming stunt, featuring Hulk and other comic book titles, on November 26, 2004. WAM! kicks it off at 3 p.m. ET/PT with five episodes of "The Green Hornet," followed by the animated feature "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" at 5:30 p.m. ET/PT and "Batman Returns" at 6:45 p.m. ET/PT, wrapping up with the WAM! premier of "Hulk" at 9 p.m. ET/PT. In addition, throughout the course of the contest, WAM! will feature interviews with real life film aficionados such as Leonard Maltin, who began his career as a teenage movie critic.
Students, 13-18 years old, are encouraged to submit video or film productions that come straight from their imagination -- like a cartoon character that saves the world -- or a production that includes someone from real life like a teacher, parent, sibling or friend, who has superhero qualities to them. Submissions can feature animation, live action, clay animation, stop-animation or a combination of technologies. Productions should be no longer than 7 minutes. The contest runs through February 28, 2005.
"WAM!'s Teen Video Contest is dedicated to a new generation of filmmakers," says Midge Pierce, VP of WAM! programming. "This is an opportunity for us to engage our audience and interact with them on a new level. Developing this contest has been a longstanding goal of the channel and we're looking forward to identifying new talent -- the next big Hollywood directors and producers."
Judging criteria includes originality, character & plot development, artistic expression and quality of entry. New York Film Festival Director Tara Dawn and Starz Denver International Film Festival Director Ron Henderson have agreed to serve as advisors. Winners will be announced during the "Comic Book Heroes" programming stunt in May.
There may be as many as 12 finalists, leading to one grand prize winner and two runners-up. The grand prize is a state-of-the-art video equipment package valued at $5,000, which includes a Panasonic mini DV camcorder. The winner may also have the opportunity to have their original film shown on WAM! for a national television debut. The two runners-up will win a new Panasonic D-snap video camera. All other finalists will receive WAM! channel related items.
