Stars Come out for Young Filmmaker Awards - Wednesday 25 February, London
LONDON -- The stars are set to come out in support of this year's First Light Film Awards on the morning of 25 February at the Odeon West End as the UK film industry celebrates the talents of 7 to 18 year old filmmakers from across the country.
Channel 4's T4 presenter June Sarpong will host this years awards ceremony celebrating some of the best young filmmaking from around the UK.
Stars including Olivia Williams (Peter Pan, The Sixth Sense), Jamie Bell (Billy Elliott), Dougray Scott (To Kill a King, Enigma), film director Sir Alan Parker (Evita, Angela's Ashes), the star of The Kumars at No.42 Sanjeev Bhaskar and MTV presenter Alex Zane will be among the famous faces congratulating the achievements of young people who have produced an array of short films.
The First Light Film Awards 2004 celebrates some of the best examples of digital short films made by young people aged between 7 and 18 years-of-age from across the UK using UK Film Council Lottery grants worth an average of GBP5,000 per project.
There are nine award categories including Best Live Action Drama/Fiction, Best Silent Film, Best Documentary, Best Animation, Best Comedy, Best Horror, Best Film made by under 12's, Best Film made by over 13's and Best Screenplay.

Films nominated for Awards include 'SPACED OUT', a Leeds-made tale of triumph over sherbet-making Martians; 'DANCING DANIELLE', a Lanarkshire story about a girl who cannot stop dancing; 'HAMSTER', a Devon produced tale of a new boy blamed for the death of a class hamster; 'THE FINAL', a Birmingham-based story of turmoil at a football club; 'FAMILY FLAVOUR', a comedy about a Leicester girl's dreams of success in Bollywood; and 'CRY WOLF', an Edinburgh tale of teenagers on the hunt for a werewolf. The nominated films also address issues of concern to young people including bullying, theft and revenge.

First Light, which is managed by Birmingham-based Hi8us First Light Limited, was launched by the UK Film Council in May 2001. To date it has given around 6,500 young people the chance to write, act, shoot and produce more than 400 films about their lives and issues that affect them.
