APPLICATIONS DEADLINE EXTENDED TO SEPTEMBER 22

The Irish Film & Television Academy has confirmed that membership for the new voting Academy will remain open until Friday 22nd September as a reaction to industry requests for an extension, due to a busy summer production schedule, the recent RTE commissioning deadline, annual leave during August etc. This request has been especially strong from the television sector.

Academy CEO Aine Moriarty stated today that, "there has been a superb response from the industry across all sectors with some chapters getting a stronger response than others. We are almost at capacity on certain chapters such as the Producers Chapter, the Directing and Acting chapters - but we are eager to ensure that the chapters which represent crews and production staff across the industry are also properly represented. I want to reiterate that the Academy is open to ALL sectors of the industry."

"We acknowledge the requests from the industry for the extra time to make their applications. The deadline can only be extended to September 22nd for 'Full Membership' as the Call for Entries for the Awards Title Submissions will then be launched. It is imperative, for those who wish to become Founding Members of the Academy, to ensure that their applications reach the IFTA office before this deadline."

Membership to the Academy will offer a range of benefits including; voting privileges in the annual Irish Film & Television Awards, free screenings during Voting Season, networking evenings, educational events (Q&As, masterclasses, lectures etc), free publications including quarterly Academy magazine, annual Awards magazine, interview booklets, special offers and member discounts(hotels, restaurants, cinemas etc).

Membership is open to Irish industry professionals working at various levels in all disciplines, with the opportunity to become a Full Member or an Associate Member. To become a Full Member of the Academy (with voting rights for the annual Awards), you must have a minimum of Four Years professional experience and demonstrate that you are working at an appropriate level as defined by each individual Chapter, and/or have made a significant contribution to the industry. Those of you who do not, at this time, meet the minimum eligibility criteria, may apply to become Associate Members (which has many benefits but does not have Voting rights) with a view to becoming full members in the future.

If you are based outside of Ireland, you can apply for International Membership, which carries the same rights as Full / Associate members, but with diffe! rent voting obligations.

Should you wish to apply, all you need to do is fill out the Membership Form (PDF available online at www.ifta.ie) and return it with the relevant fee to the Academy’s office before Friday22nd of September to ensure you are registered for the autumn Academy schedule of activities and to vote in the next annual IFTA Awards.

Full details about the Academy, including Academy Chapters, Eligibility, Application forms etc., are published on www.ifta.ie . If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the Academy at membership@ifta.ie.
