South by Southwest (SXSW) Film 2004 Conference and Festival Announces Feature Film Line-up
Austin, TX - February 9, 2004 - The South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival is proud to announce the lineup of films set for this year's events. Scheduled to run March 12-20, 2004 in Austin, TX, SXSW has become a great destination for anyone in the film industry to come and experience some of the best new films made today. The festival will feature close to 200 films, including 90 feature-length selections, over
40 of which are either U.S. or World Premieres.
"We're really excited about the program this year," says Festival Producer Matt Dentler. "I think it represents a broad perspective of amazing cinema from around the world."
The Opening Night film this year will be the U.S. Premiere of "Code 46", directed by Michael Winterbottom, starring current Oscar nominees Tim Robbins and Samantha Morton. The Modern Masters Premiere will be "Dogville," directed by Lars von Trier and starring Nicole Kidman.
Narrative Feature Special Screenings lined up for the 2004 festival include: Kevin Smith's "Jersey Girl" starring Ben Affleck, Michael Haussman's "Blind Horizon" starring Val Kilmer, John Crowley's "Intermission" starring Colin Farrell, David Mackenzie's "Young Adam" starring Ewan McGregor, and many more.
Documentary Feature Special Screenings will nclude: "Bush's Brain" directed by Michael Shoob and Joseph Mealey,
"Slasher" directed by John Landis, "The End" directed by Kirby Dick, "The New Americans" produced by Steve James, "Small Ball" directed by Andrew Kolker and Louis Alvarez, "Super Size Me" directed by Morgan Spurlock, and many more.
The festival will showcase films in both Documentary and Narrative Feature Competition, as well as a series of sidebars including: 'Round Midnight for horror/action films, Lone Star States for Texas-made features, Emerging Visions for new and innovative feature filmmakers, 24
Beats Per Second for music-related documentaries, and a Political Films Retrospective collection. SXSW 2004 will also include short films in the narrative, documentary, animated, experimental, and music video categories.
"Without a doubt, 2004 will be a year to remember for South by Southwest," concludes Dentler. "The staff just hopes we'll get to have as much fun as our audiences are going to have."
