The largest professional association for screenwriters in the world, the American Screenwriters Association (ASA), and the only digital filmmaking festival dedicated to bringing an artist's vision from Script to Screen in one week, The Duke City Shootout, have announced their new partnership.

In partnering with the American Screenwriters Association, Duke City Shootout will be adding a critical screenwriting component through festival on-site writing experts provided by ASA, a writers blog of frequently asked questions and answers, and mentoring experts from the screenwriting world including Ellen Sandler (Producer, Writer, Everybody Loves Raymond, Coach ). The American Screenwriters Association and their partner, the San Diego Film Festival, will also showcase the Duke City Shootout winning shorts during the 5th Annual SDFF festival and 19th ASA International Screenwriters Conference, September 27 - October 1, 2006.

"Our partnership with the Duke City Shootout will significantly benefit all screenwriters and filmmakers," said John E. Johnson, ASA Executive Director. "A new generation of artists will be empowered to create digital shorts and have all the resources needed to write, shoot, edit, and showcase their work."

About Duke City Shootout
The Duke City Shootout, founded by the Digital Filmmaking Institute, is a week long movie making competition dedicated to training aspiring artists in the use of digital technology. Now in its 7th year the Shootout accepts scripts from around the world, a panel of judges chooses the seven best 12-minute screenplays and flies the winners to Albuquerque the last week of July to produce their film. The winners are given a cast, high definition camera, lighting equipment, crew, postproduction facilities, a professional industry mentor, and roundtrip airfare and accommodations. At the end of the week, the creations are screened during the closing night Gala, and a final winner is selected.

This year's Shootout boasts enhancements to the experience including the Intel sponsored Insomnia Lounge featuring an Animation Expo, an HD Tech Hub, MiniCini Contest, the Writers Circle, and has entered into a distribution partnership with BitTorrent.com that will make all of the independent films produced for the Shootout or other Digital Filmmaking Institute programs available to approximately 65 million online viewers.

"It all starts with the scripts," said Tony DellaFlora, co-founder of the Shootout. "Our alliance with ASA will lead to better and better scripts for us to work with in coming years while enriching the screenwriting educational component of the Festival."

Benefits to ASA Members

The Duke City Shootout will provide ASA members with discounted entries in their short script competition, assist in promoting and furthering ASA's mission for screenwriters, and collaborate with ASA in enhancing the leading festival for digital short filmmaking in the world.
