Two misfits living in San
Francisco's Mission District devise a public access television show that becomes a threat to the public. |
|
SYNOPSIS
Hubert is a thirty year-old artist who operates a low-budget video studio in San Francisco's Mission District, renting his space for everything from instructional videos to gay porn. Hubert's sidekick, Peter, lives at home with his alcoholic mother and collects disability for a dubious manic-depressive condition. Together, these two misfits create a hilarious and bizarre public access show called "Public Abscess." Peter's quest for ever-more dangerous experiences has led him to concoct a frightening new segment for the show that involves LSD, an ATM envelope and an unsuspecting businessman.
Katherine, an acquaintance of Peter's, has just arrived home from a psychiatric hospital following a suicide attempt. Her painfully solicitous boyfriend, George, has enrolled Katherine in a new-age center called The Awareness Workshop, which employs unusual breathing and meditation exercises to help heal wounded spirits. Katherine's first class includes a meditation on getting hit by a car.
The Breathing Show is a dark comedy about young people who haven’t decided how—or even if--they want to make the transition to adulthood. It's about their sometimes comic suffering and how the pain they carry with them gets perpetuated across generations and city streets. It's also about San Francisco and the spiritual seekers who appear and disappear there "like fireflies on a summer night." |
