FINAL CALL FOR ENTRIES - USA FILM FESTIVAL'S - 26TH ANNUAL NATIONAL SHORT FILM AND VIDEO COMPETITION
DALLAS - The USA Film Festival, one of the oldest, most prestigious film arts organizations in the United States, has issued a FINAL CALL for entries for the 26th Annual National Short Film and Video Competition.
The competition is open to short films (less than 60 minutes) produced in the USA between January 1, 2003 and March 1, 2004. The Final Deadline is March 15, 2004. Winners will be announced as part of the 34th Annual USA Film Festival, April 22-29, 2004.
The National Jury will award cash prizes in the following categories: Fiction ($1,000), Non-Fiction ($1,000), Animation ($1,000) [Academy Qualified], and Experimental ($1,000). In addition to these four principal categories, the Jury will select "Best Of" awards in the following areas: The Family Award ($500, dedicated to the memory of longtime Competition chairman Charles Samu), The Texas Award ($500, dedicated to the memory of Festival co-founder Dr. G. William Jones), and The Student Award ($500). In addition, the Jury will announce four Special Jury Awards ($250) from any of the major categories.
Past winners include Don Hertzfeldt, George Hickenlooper, Todd Haynes, Sara Hickman, Bill Plympton, Su Friedrich, John Lasseter, Henry Selick, Arthur Dong, Michael Almereyda, Alan Taylor, Joel Hopkins, and Wes Anderson. Competition winners Jessica Yu (Breathing Lessons: The Life and Work of Mark O'Brien, 1996) and Chris Tashima (Visas and Virtue, 1997) both went on to win Academy Awards ® for their films.
An official entry form for the 26th Annual National Short Film and Video Competition can be obtained by calling the USA Film Festival at 214/821-FILM. (No form or fee is required to submit a feature film [non-competitive] to the Festival - filmmakers should send a VHS cassette or DVD with cover letter and press kit to the Festival by March 15, 2004.)
The USA Film Festival is a Dallas-based nonprofit organization dedicated to the encouragement and recognition of excellence in the film and video arts. The Festival's year-round events include KidFilm (the oldest and largest children's film festival in the United States), film premieres, special programs, and the USA Film Festival, held each spring.
