Aspiring Filmmakers Compete In First Online Film Festival with Launch of Short Film Category

Nashville, TN -- Fylmz.com, an organization dedicated to the advancement of film and filmmakers through the empowerment of their fans, recently launched the first phase of the Fylmz.com Film Festival. In an intriguing new format, Fylmz has launched a nationwide search for filmmakers that allows the audience to vote for their favorite films by viewing trailers, posters and synopses. The most popular films, based on viewer feedback, are eligible for entry into the film festival in February 2007 and a grand prize of $100,000. Last month the Festival debuted the short films category to the Fylmz community.

“Audiences have long voted at the box office for their favorite films. The old model for filmmakers was to pitch your idea to a movie studio, if you can get in the door, and hope to get the ear of the right supporter to get funding to make a movie,” said Tony Vidmer, award-winning filmmaker and founder of Fylmz. “The new model goes right to the viewer. By democratizing the process, we are able to promote and fund the movies that have fan support.”

The contest, created by Fylmz, is the first exclusively online film festival that relies on viewer participation. The feature finalists will be flown to Nashville for four days of screenings and parties beginning February 8th, 2007, when the grand prize and runner-up winners will be announced, along with Festival Awards for Actor, Actress, Director, and Screenplay.

To participate in the Fylmz Film Festival, viewers are asked to sign up for a free membership at Fylmz.com. Members are invited to view exclusive content and earn points that are then redeemable for prizes and other film-related gifts.

Fylmz is the brainchild of writer/director/producer A.W. Vidmer, who created "High Roller:The Stu Ungar Story," the popular poker movie starring Michael Imperioli of the Sopranos and distributed by New Line Cinema.
