LA Intensive Filmmaker Program
L.A. Intensive is an educational summer program offered by The American Pavilion that takes place in Los Angeles each August. Now in its sixth year, L.A. Intensive grew out of a decade of helping alumni of The American Pavilion/Kodak Student Filmmaker Program at the Cannes International Film Festival make the transition from film school to the L.A. entertainment industry. The program is designed for film students or recent film graduates who have just moved or plan to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film or television.
Participants are housed in student accommodation facilities on the UCLA campus for the duration of the program (9 days and 8 nights), ideally located in the beautiful L.A. neighborhood of Westwood. Each day is fully scheduled with workshops, tours, panel discussions, screenings, tapings and interactive demonstrations. Participants are encouraged to bring copies of their resumés and collect business cards at all events. On the last night of the program, there is a wrap party for L.A. Intensive participants and speakers that provides the opportunity to converse in depth with industry contacts made earlier in the week in a less formal setting.
Due to the one-on-one nature of the program, no more than approximately 20 students are accepted each year. The American Pavilion Selection Committee operates on a rolling admissions system between the date applications are made available (September 16, 2005) and the general application deadline (June 9, 2006). Under this system, Early Decision applicants (those who apply by February 24, 2006) have an increased chance of acceptance. Early Decision applicants also have the option of paying the program fee in two installments instead of one.
Building on the success of the past five years, The American Pavilion looks forward to providing participants in the 2006 L.A. Intensive the first step toward rewarding careers in the entertainment industry.
