Competition Offers Cash Prizes to Screenplays Showcasing Women and Minority Protagonists

BroadMind Entertainment, a Los Angeles based production company, has begun to accept submissions for its eighth annual Cynosure Screenwriting Awards, a competition which offers cash prizes to quality character and concept driven screenplays showcasing female and minority protagonists.

The competition is open to scripts in any genre, and to writers in any country, although screenplays must be in English. Two $2500 cash prizes will be awarded, one for the best script with a female protagonist, and one for the best script with a minority protagonist, either male or female.

In addition, sponsors YOURBESTDRAFT.com, SELLASCRIPT.com and Digital Express, Etc are offering additional prizes valued at over $5000.

The competition has rolling deadlines and the entry fees are as follows: $45 for scripts postmarked by the early deadline of March 18, 2006; $50 for scripts postmarked by the regular deadline of April 29, 2006, and $55 for scripts postmarked by the final deadline of June 3, 2006. Judging is conducted by a panel of industry professionals from LA and NY. Winners will be announced in mid-September.

Last year’s winners were Green Shag Carpet Girls, written by Tamara Farsadi and Lovejoy, S.C. by Yolanda Buggs. Farsadi’s script, the story of two high school juniors who start a band and travel from their stifling lives in the suburbs into a world where they are free to become who they want to be, is currently in development, with actress Rosanna Arquette attached to the project.

About The Cynosure Screenwriting Awards

The Cynosure Screenwriting Awards were established in 1998 to encourage screenwriters to create dynamic roles for women and minorities through stories that reflect both the diversity and universality of the human experience. In the past seven years, the Cynosure Screenwriting Awards have granted over $28,000 in prizes.
