Screamfest Horror Film Festival ANNOUNCES CALL FOR ENTRIES TO 5TH ANNUAL FILM AND SCREENPLAY COMPETITION

Los Angeles, CA (February 20, 2005) - Rachel Belofsky, president and founder of SCREAMFEST Horror Film Festival and partner Stan Winston announced its Call For Entries for its 5th annual Screamfest Horror Film Festival and Screenplay Competition. The festival takes place October 14 - 23 at Loews Universal Studios Cinemas at Universal CityWalk. Winners will be announced at the Dinner Award Ceremony to be held on October 23 at Maggiano's located in The Grove.

The largest genre film festival held in the U.S., Screamfest, is an internationally recognized showcase for independent filmmakers and writers of the horror, science fiction and fantasy genres.

Judges for the competition include such notable names as Academy Award™-winning special effects master, Stan Winston; director Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist); Jeff Katz creative executive at New Line Cinema; development executive Michael Grady; Alex Franklin, Director of Development of Lions Gate Films and David Kopple, motion picture literary agent for the Gersh Agency.

"We are very excited to have the opportunity to celebrate the work of the finest young talent working in these extremely popular genres," said Rachel Belofsky, the festival's founder and president. "This competition provides them the exposure they so richly deserve and gives audiences the chance to experience their work in a first-class setting."

Film entries are being accepted in the categories of Best Feature, Directing, Cinematography, Editing, Special Effects and Musical Score to name a few. In addition, there are special categories for Best Animation, Best Short, Best Documentary and Best Student Film. The normal deadline for film submissions is July 15, with a late deadline of August 15. Screamfest accepts film completed after January 1, 2001.

The deadline for screenplay submissions is June 15, with a late deadline of July 15.

Founded in 2001, Screamfest is dedicated to discovering the new blood of horror and honoring the masters. An example of this is the recent success of Victor Garcia, winner of the Screamfest 2004 Best Horror Short. After winning the prize for best horror short at Screamfest Horror Film Festival Los Angeles in October, it made the rounds and earned the Barcelona-based f/x specialist reps at Endeavor and Underground Management As reported in Variety's Feb. 15th issue, Victor Garcia will direct the horror pic SMOKE for Gold Circle.
