In the event of any sale or option of your material that is due to the ongoing promotional efforts by FilmMakers.com, FilmMakers Magazine, and/or Media Pro Tech Inc., 7% (seven percent) of that amount will be paid by the purchaser, or you the writer, to FilmMakers.com.

This contest is open to anyone (world wide) except all employees, directors, associates, the immediate families of American Gem, FilmMakers.com, The Radmin Company, Write Brothers, all the affiliates, agents, partners, and sponsors.
THE MATERIAL MUST HAVE TITLE PAGE CONTAINING THE TITLE, AUTHOR'S NAME, E-MAIL ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, AND HOME ADDRESS.

Submissions must be: short film (narrative); and must be between 3-45- pages and no longer than 60 pages. Please add an additional $10 for material over 45 pages. Font must be 12-point Courier, Courier New or Courier Final Draft.; in any genre; and must be possible to produce on a low budget.
Treatments, loglines, and short stories are permissible.  
Multiple entries are permissible.
Once a script, synopsis, logline, story has been entered, no substitutions of new drafts or corrected pages will be considered. You may submit a revised draft of your material, as a new submission and pay the appropriate entry fee.
Adaptations from other works are permissible provided you have the writer's written permission to adapt the work.
Adaptations of works in the public domain are permissible. 
Collaborative work is eligible. The writers are responsible for the distribution of the contest prize (s). 
Writers under the age of 18 years old must fill an Entry Form and have a parent or guardian fill the Entry Form.
Contest applicants must accept without reservation the decisions rendered by the jurors.
The Material must not have been previously optioned, sold, or produced for profit. 
Writer understands and accepts without reservation that he/she/ is an independent contractor and American Gem/Write Brothers are not responsible for withholding any taxes or payments to any government agency, at any level, be it state, local or federal. 
Writer understands that it is his/her sole responsibility to register Material with the U.S. Copyright Office and/or with the Writer’s Guild of America or the equivalent agency in his/her country.
You have retained at least one copy of the submitted material, and you understand that all material we receive cannot and will not be returned under any circumstances.
For scripts and short stories, at least one main character in the story, male or female, must be an American.
All entries must be postmarked no later than March 15, 2009.
American Gem Short Screenplay / Literary Competition is not responsible for late or lost submissions.
Writer is responsible for updating all his/her contact information.
By entering this contest and in the event writer is declared a finalist, he/she/they understand and accept that filmmakers.com will be free to use their name and likeness for advertising or promotional purposes without additional consideration.
If writer is a finalist he/she/they agree to give FilmMakers.com the permission to post on its web site, the script's logline, synopsis, excerpts, story excerpt and interview. 
Writer may submit his/her/their screenplay to any other person, contest, producer, agent, and/or organization.
Entering this contest will not limit writer's copyright in any way. Writer retains all rights (100%) to his/her/their property.

In the event of any sale or option of your Material, or contract work that is due to the ongoing promotional efforts by FilmMakers.com, FilmMakers Magazine, and/or Media Pro Tech Inc., 7% (seven percent) of that amount will be paid by the purchaser, or you the writer, to FilmMakers.com (contract value, sale or option under $5000 will be exempt).

If a script is sold/optioned or the writer gets work, a development deal, or representation, etc., the writer must inform filmmakers.com via email.
Writer is solely responsible for any misuse of his/their account, even if the offending act or conduct was committed by, results from or arises from the act, omission or behavior of someone other than said writer(s). Therefore writer must take the necessary precautions to protect access to and use of his/their account, including your user name and password. 
It is writer's responsibility to provide and check and keep his/their contact information up to date, including a required valid e-mail address, current mailing address, phone number, etc, that writer provided to American Gem during the sign-up process. American Gem and Filmmakers.com have no responsibility for communications that are misdirected as a result of writer(s) failure to provide American Gem/Filmmakers.com with updated contact information.
