Biography

Chris Shearer

Chris holds a few degrees, but the one he’s most proud of comes from his completion of the Second City comedy writing program. He’s put that “degree” to good use, writing sketches for local sketch shows, as well as writing sitcom spec scripts and an original sitcom pilot. He won the Acclaim Scripts 2013 TV Spec Script Competition and had the highest-finishing half-hour spec script in the 2015 Filmmakers TV Script Writing Competition. His original sitcom pilot script was an honorable mention in that same competition. In his day job, Chris works as an in-house attorney for a large accounting firm (so, it’s not that impressive when he brags that he’s the funniest guy in his office). He lives in the Chicago suburbs with his wife and two young sons, whose comedy horizon he’s fighting to broaden beyond the world of poop jokes.

Logline

After a misunderstanding, Blake must decide whether to sacrifice his most prized possession-- his hair-- in order to get his pals dates with their dream girls.

Synopsis: Blake, Anders, and Adam are having lunch at the mall when they notice three attractive women manning a sign-up booth for some charitable cause. Without bothering to learn what the cause is, the guys engage the girls, Blake signs up as a volunteer and, to their surprise, the girls schedule a date with them after the “event.” One problem—Blake soon discovers that the “event” is a head shaving to contribute to the “Locks of Love” cancer charity.

Back at the office, Anders and Adam pressure Blake to go through with the head shaving so they can secure their dates. Their cause is not helped when Jillian runs a computer simulation that show how truly hideous Blake would look bald. When Blake returns to the mall to explain his mistake to the women, Anders and Adam both become smitten with the same woman and sabotage Blake’s attempt to back out.

Feeling desperate, Blake heads to Karl’s van for his wise counsel, while Blake and Adam compare schemes at home to make sure they can donate Blake’s hair and secure their dream dates. Anders takes a business school-type approach with the world’s most boring PowerPoint presentation, while Adam prefers to go “ninja-style” by doing unspeakable things to Blake’s pillow.

Blake’s and Karl’s “foolproof” plan to obtain lice (thus rendering Blake unable to donate his hair) by rubbing heads with school kids backfires, leading them to flee a horde of parents who have mistaken them for child predators. Blake returns home, defeated and exhausted. So exhausted, he passes out cold on his Adam-defiled pillow. Blake admits he’s resigned to donating his hair.

The next day, Anders and Adam deliver Blake to the barber’s chair, but Blake is ultimately saved by a last minute discovery—he is unable to donate his hair due to the presence of the crabs he obtained not from the schoolchildren, but from Adam’s tryst with his pillow. Their dream girls flee in horror, but the guys walk off into the sunset (or the mall) happily scratching what itches.
