September, 2002-Los Angeles. BroadMind Entertainment is proud to announce “Black Lace” by Patrick Brown and “The Quilted Heart” by Gary Corbett Davis as the winning entries of the 4th Annual Cynosure Screenwriting Awards, the only screenplay contest to recognize scripts with strong minority and female protagonists. Patrick and Gary have each received $2000 prizes.
“Black Lace” (1st Place, Minority Category) is a romantic thriller set in Jamaica. A heartbroken single mother finally meets “Mr. Perfect”. When he’s involved in a car accident and flees the scene in a panic, she agrees to help him conceal the truth. This decision, however, will have disastrous consequences for her family. The writer, Patrick Brown started writing plays as a hobby while attending the University of the West Indies. He has written and produced some 15 stage plays and 30 sitcom episodes for local Jamaican television.
“The Quilted Heart," (1st Place, Female Category) tells the story of Sarah, an ailing Southern woman who has one day to share her life, love and losses - lessons stitched within the fabrics of her quilt – with her estranged granddaughter, Becca, a successful young lawyer who must make a decision that will change the direction of her life. The writer, Gary Corbett Davis, has worked in production at Universal Studios and CBS. He has taught film and television production at the university level and is a published author of stories for newspapers and magazines. He is actively launching a screenwriting career.

The Cynosure Awards were established in 1998 to encourage screenwriters to create dynamic roles for women and minorities through stories that reflect both the diversity and universality of the human experience.
