Set in the Midwest in the mid-sixties, boxing promoter Sid Shores finds himself alone with several hundred thousand dollars after a robbery attempt goes horribly wrong. Pressured by his increasingly unhappy wife, Darlene, Sid is compelled to keep the money and fulfill a longstanding promise to buy her a nightclub.

Unbeknownst to Sid, the money belongs to ex-partner Lennie Greene, now retired and living in Florida. Furious and determined, Lennie flies into town, and promptly enlists Sid's to help him find the person who stole his money. Sid quickly finds himself entangled in his wife's ambitions, the charms of a seductive dancer, blackmail, and his ex-partner's violent tendencies.
